I’m Ruari. I live in London. I’m a massive geek.
A self confessed fantasy book nerd, you’ll often find me reading. Present authors of note include Mark Lawrence, whose Broken Empire Trilogy thrusts its glorious anti-hero right into your black heart like a dagger; Patrick Rothfuss, whose storytelling is lyrical; and Scott Lynch’s ‘Gentlemen Bastards’ sequence is an object lesson in plot twists and sleight of hand.
One of my biggest passions is the wine and spirits trade – and that’s where I’m a real geek. Sure I can quote the best part of the Star Wars films, and sure, I get a little excited every time a new Marvel movie comes out (Doctor Strange. It’s actually happening. *fangirls*) and yes, Mark Millar is one of the finest comic-strip writers of our generation, but where I really shine is when you ask me about Tequila.
Or Rum. Gin. Vodka. Whisky (and Whiskey). Why a Paulliac isn’t worth drinking until it’s been bottle-aged for at least ten years. Why Bacardi was actually a ground-breaking rum and is arguably responsible for bringing rum to a wider audience.
Despite holding my Diploma from the Wine & Spirits Education Trust, I don’t know the slightest bit as much as I’d like to, but I really love learning about it. I’m passionate about it, and that’s more than enough for me.
